This guidance outlines the minimum constraints on gatherings held at marae under the different colours of the COVID-19 Protection Framework.

The decision on whether to allow gatherings at all rests with the leadership of the marae. If gatherings are permitted, decisions will also need to be made on whether those who are unvaccinated will be able to use marae or attend gatherings.

Marae are free and encouraged to consider what approach to take for each gathering and/or what additional measures they may want to put in place given their own tikanga and kawa, e.g. marae committees may apply a vaccine requirement to all gatherings, or hold tangihanga primarily online with only whānau pani attending in person.
